UN's Sustainable Development Goals addressed
The project provides training on how to improve agricultural productivity which will lead to better food security.

Total number of community members who are expected to have improved skills and knowledge resulting from training provided as part of project activities is 4,000. Improved income should also have a positive effect on the level of children's education.
quality education logo
Total number of people expected to have improved livelihoods or income generated as a result of project activities Entire Project Zone: 16,000 in 3,800 families.
no poverty logo
The entire community engaged is expected to achieve improved well-being as a result of project activities. Besides, healthy forests improve the quality of life of the people who depend on them.
good health and well being logo
At least 50% of project employees are women. This set up helps to improve equality and power dynamics, while providing opportunities to women.
gender equality logo
The project will create 200 full-time jobs, and will provide training for young people to improve their work prospects in the future.
decent work and economic growth logo
The project is preserving forests that store carbon dioxide. This has a positive effect on the global climate.

Threats to the one of the planet's most important location for biodiversity conservation
Despite its global importance, Southern Cardamom region is one of most threatened forest landscapes in South East Asia.
logging icon
Illegal logging, fuel gathering and charcoal production all threaten the forest.
agriculture icon
The uncontrolled small-scale land conversion of forest to agricultural land is the main challenge.
Rural communities depend on small-scale agricultural production to support their livelihood, as they lack sufficient employment opportunities and knowledge.

This important habitat is now a part of Southern Cardamom National Park and Tatai Wildlife Sanctuary and will protect a critical part of the Cardamom Mountains Rainforest Ecoregion.
The Project will directly support the livelihoods of 21 villages in nine communes around the perimeter of the project area. With new skills and new income opportunities the communities can flourish and ease the pressure on the forest.
Environmental benefits
Supporting at least 52 species of IUCN Threatened birds, mammals, and reptiles including Siamese crocodile and one of Cambodia's two viable populations of Asian elephant
The Project will generate substantial community and biodiversity co-benefits, protect forest and species, improve water quality.
The watershed is important for the fisheries of the Gulf of Thailand as it provides fresh water to the largest contiguous mangrove forest left in the Gulf, Peam Krasop Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a critical nursery for the region's fisheries.
Community benefits
The communities that benefit from the project represent approximately 2,475 families and 10,550 individuals.
Community Scholarship Fund
Community-based Eco-Tourism Development
Improve Health Facilities and Care
Training on Agricultural Methods and Intensification
The territory of the project has 20 major waterways that feed 3,800 villages in over 6 provinces. This area also provides food for Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam and supports the regulation of climate for the Southeast Asian peninsula.
Wildlife Alliance has been assisting the government in the management of the Cardamom Rainforest Landscape since 2002.
Core activities of Wildlife Alliance have been patrols protecting the forest and technical assistance to the government to help it implement forest protection. Wildlife Alliance has also undertaken community development and education programs, to help local people switch to livelihoods that are compatible with the sustainable use of the regions rich natural resources.
